Establishment of Interspecies Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer and Transgene‐Free Inducible Pluripotent Stem Cells for Versatile Conservation of the Germplasm Resource of Wild Boar

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Conserving genetic material and even increasing genetic diversity is critical. To conduct the conservation of wild boar germplasm resources, we have successfully obtained healthy cloned wild boars for the first time using interspecies somatic cell nuclear transfer and established transgene‐free iPSCs that can be used to conduct iterative rounds of gene

Laying hens in furnished cages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Concern for the welfare of laying hens housed in conventional cages has led to a change of the Animal Welfare Legislation in Sweden, implying that cages must provide possibilities for hens to lay eggs in a nest, to rest on a perch and to use litter. Such

Heat Stress and Gut Microbiome Dynamics in Poultry: Interplay, Consequences, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts gut microbial balance in poultry, impairing nutrient absorption and immunity. This review outlines the interplay between thermal stress and microbiome dynamics and discusses integrative mitigation strategies, probiotics, phytogenics, cooling systems, and genetic adaptation to enhance poultry resilience.

Genomic Structural Variations Provide Insights Into Litter Size and Teat Number Traits in Hu Sheep

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Here, we conducted whole genome sequencing on 300 Hu sheep with an average depth of 16.51X. Two candidate genes associated with litter size and teat number traits were identified, namely MAST2 and AFDN. ABSTRACT Litter size and the teat number are important economic indicators in sheep production.

Global meta-analysis reveals differential effects of climate and litter quality on soil fauna-mediated litter decomposition across size classes

open access: yesGeoderma
Litter decomposition is significantly influenced by soil fauna, litter quality, and climate. Effects of soil fauna on litter decomposition are largely dependent on the size classes of the fauna.

Na+-leak channel, non-selective (NALCN) regulates myometrial excitability and facilitates successful parturition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background/Aims: Uterine contractility is controlled by electrical signals generated by myometrial smooth muscle cells. Because aberrant electrical signaling may cause inefficient uterine contractions and poor reproductive outcomes, there is great ...

Cutting Through the Green: A Case for Grassland Archaeology Using UAV Multispectral Data

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Advances in low‐altitude remote sensing are needed to improve the effectiveness of archaeological prospection in the Netherlands. The geomorphological situation and land use history make applying various remote sensing and geophysical technologies particularly challenging.

Multiple paternity and hybridization in two smooth-hound sharks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Multiple paternity appears to be a common trait of elasmobranch mating systems, with its occurrence likely driven by convenience, due to females seeking to minimize the stress of male harassment.
