Seedling Mortality by Litterfall in Amazonian Forest Fragments1

Biotropica, 2000
ABSTRACTPhysical damage caused by litterfall is a source of seedling mortality that can be influenced by environmental disturbances, such as the isolation of forest fragments due to habitat destruction. The impact of physical damage in seedling mortality was evaluated in forest fragments and continuous forests in central Amazonia using artificial ...

Multiple nutrients limit litterfall and decomposition in a tropical forest

Ecology Letters, 2007
AbstractTo explore the importance of 12 elements in litter production and decomposition, we fertilized 36 1600 m2‐plots with combinations of N, P, K, or micronutrients (i.e. B, Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Mo, S, Zn) for 6 years in a lowland Panamanian forest. The 90% of litter falling as leaves and twigs failed to increase with fertilization, but reproductive ...

[Litterfall in main forest ecosystems of Northeast China].

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2006
A three-year investigation on the litterfall of 15 forests in 4 different regions of Northeast China showed that the annual litterfall had a significant difference among forest types in the same region, but no significant difference was found between years. In the litterfall, leaf occupied 70% and more, while branch, flower and fruit were less than 20%.
