Haematology and metabolism of the blood of the little penguin, Eudyptula minor

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1988
1. We studied the haematology of the little penguin, Eudyptula minor, and measured red cell enzymes, and the rate of O2 and glucose consumption and CO2 and lactate production of whole penguin blood. 2. Little penguins have a very low RBC count (1.66 x 10(12) l-1) and very large red cells (MCV = 229 microns 3), resulting in a normal haemoglobin and ...

Patterns of Arrival and Departure by Breeding Little Penguins at Penguin Island, Western Australia

Emu - Austral Ornithology, 1991

Genetic connectivity of little penguin colonies in Australia

2023
The Australian range of little penguins, Eudyptula minor, extends around southern Australia, with range-edge sites near the large cities of Perth (west) and Sydney (east). Both range-edges are closer to the equator than the range-core, being likely to experience similar heating with climate change.

Temperature inside nest boxes of little penguins

Wildlife Society Bulletin, 2004
In order to assess the potential impact that artificial nest boxes may have on the occupation rate or physical condition of adults and chicks of little penguins (Eudyptula minor), we recorded temperature continuously for 37 days simultaneously inside 7 nest boxes and in surrounding bush.
