Genetic connectivity of little penguin colonies in Australia

2023
The Australian range of little penguins, Eudyptula minor, extends around southern Australia, with range-edge sites near the large cities of Perth (west) and Sydney (east). Both range-edges are closer to the equator than the range-core, being likely to experience similar heating with climate change.

Environmental physiology of the little penguin (Eudyptula minor)

2023
This study investigates the energetic adaptations and constraints of the little penguin in relation to its aquatic lifestyle and examines the possible function of sleep as an energy conserving mechanism. The little penguin had a similar level of standard metabolic rate to other birds.

Lethal Toxoplasmosis in a Little Penguin (Eudyptula minor) from Tasmania

The Journal of Parasitology, 1991
A penguin (Eudyptula minor) from Tasmania, Australia, died following a 3-day illness. The liver and spleen parenchyma contained grossly visible foci of discoloration. Numerous tachyzoites of Toxoplasma gondii were seen associated with necrosis in sections of liver and spleen.

Patterns of Arrival and Departure by Breeding Little Penguins at Penguin Island, Western Australia

Emu - Austral Ornithology, 1991
SummaryOn Penguin Island, Western Australia, similar numbers of Little Penguins Eudyptula minor came ashore at each of the three landfall points on beaches giving access to the main breeding area. Almost every marked bird consistently used only one of these landfall points, and nested close to this point, but the same individuals did not regularly come
