A Citizen Science Trial to Assess Perception of Wild Penguin Welfare
Wild penguins are facing increased threats to their populations and their welfare as a consequence of human activities. Understanding the perception of animal welfare is essential to identify ethical concerns related to the negative impact of ...

Sexual and geographic dimorphism in northern rockhopper penguins breeding in the South Atlantic Ocean [PDF]
The Endangered northern rockhopper penguin Eudyptes moseleyi, like all penguins, is monomorphic, making sex determination of individuals in the field challenging.

Micromelia in Little Penguins (Eudyptula minor) [PDF]
Two cases of unilateral micromelia are described in wild juvenile little penguins (Eudyptula minor). The first bird was found at San Remo, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia. The bird's left flipper was reduced in length, and radiography demonstrated severe shortening and dysplasia of the humerus.

Waddling on the Dark Side: Ambient Light Affects Attendance Behavior of Little Penguins [PDF]
Visible light on Earth largely comes from the sun, including light reflected from the moon. Predation risk is strongly determined by light conditions, and some animals are nocturnal to reduce predation.

Gluon and gluino penguin diagrams and the charmless decays of the b quark [PDF]
Gluon mediated exclusive hadronic decays of b quarks are studied within the standard model (SM) and the constrained minimally supersymmetric standard model (MSSM).

Changes in diet and trophic position of a top predator 10 years after a mass mortality of a key prey [PDF]
After the disappearance of primary prey, seabirds exhibit gradually decreased breeding performance, and eventually the population size drops. Results are presented of an investigation into the diet of little penguins (Eudyptula minor) at Phillip Island ...

The fluctuation of the Adelie penguin population was investigated at the Ongulkalven rookery (69°01'S, 39°26'E) and the Mame-zima rookery (69°01'S, 39°29'E) near Syowa Station (69°00'S, 39°35'E), Antarctica.

Time-lapse imagery of Adélie penguins reveals differential winter strategies and breeding site occupation. [PDF]
Polar seabirds adopt different over-wintering strategies to survive and build condition during the critical winter period. Penguin species either reside at the colony during the winter months or migrate long distances. Tracking studies and survey methods

The Effect of Regulating Zoo Visitor-Penguin Interactions on Zoo Visitor Attitudes
Understanding visitor attitudes toward zoo animals can inform the way zoos manage visitor-animal interactions by identifying the factors that may influence visitors and the way visitors interact with animals.
