Dehydroemetine in Amebic Dysentery and Amebic Liver Abscess
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1962Summary In clinical trials of dehydroemetine, a new synthetic compound, the results in acute amebic dysentery were similar to those obtained with emetine hydrochloride, and 17 of 19 patients with amebic liver abscess apparently were cured. Significant toxicity was not encountered.

Summary A case of amebic abscess of the liver occurring in a Chinese girl, aged five years, is reported. Aspiration of the abscess combined with subcutaneous injection of emetine hydrochloride, the treatment of choice for such a patient, was followed by apparent cure.
