Photothermal–Immunomodulatory Hydrogel Reinforced by Ti3C2/ZnAl‐LDH Nanoplatform for Eradicating MRSA and Promoting Diabetic Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A NETs‐inspired Ti3C2/LDH hydrogel integrates trapping, ROS boosting, and M2‐immunomodulation for MRSA‐infected wound repair. ABSTRACT MRSA infections give rise to chronic cutaneous and advance into profound tissue invasions, including osteomyelitis and sepsis—conditions for which existing clinical interventions offer only limited efficacy. The utility

Management of Pyogenic Liver Abscess and Empyema as Its Complication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Pyogenic liver abscess may have serious complications that need specific management. We reported a case of a young male patient aged 24 years old and complained of abdominal enlargement since 2 (two) weeks before.

An Enzyme‐Like Catalyzed Nanosheets for Redox Stress Oscillation Therapy Against Bacterial Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial biofilms form a physicochemical barrier. Their dense network structure and redox homeostasis confer high resistance to antimicrobial treatments and immune‐mediated killing and clearance. In this study, SnSe nanosheets with enzyme‐like properties and piezoelectric catalysis can oscillate to regulate bacterial redox homeostasis and improve the ...

Pyogenic liver abscess

open access: yesCleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine, 2010
[Extract] INTRODUCTION — Pyogenic liver abscesses usually develop following peritonitis due to leakage of intraabdominal bowel contents that subsequently spread to liver via the portal circulation or via direct spread from biliary infection. They may also result from arterial hematogenous seeding in the setting of systemic infection.

Dual‐Anchored Clickable Peptide via SPAAC for Gelatinase‐Responsive Antibacterial and Osteogenic Functions on Titanium Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To address the infection‐associated orthopedic implant failures, this study presents a gelatinase‐responsive antibacterial titanium implant (Ti‐Dual) featuring a dual‐anchored fusion peptide containing antibacterial (HHC36) and osteogenic (RGD) domains connected by a cleavable GPLGV linker.

Pyogenic liver abscess mimicking pleural effusion

open access: yesSouth African Family Practice, 2012
Pyogenic liver abscess is a major visceral abscess that may pose a diagnostic dilemma in a febrile child with prominent extra-abdominal symptoms. We present a case of a well-nourished, immunocompetent four-year-old girl who had none of the common ...

Defect‐Rich 2D Layered Double Hydroxides Enhance Sonodynamic Antibacterial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops defect‐rich ultrathin ZnCuW‐LDH nanosheets (DR‐ZnCuW‐LDH) via acid etching. DR‐ZnCuW‐LDH exhibits fourfold enhanced US‐triggered ROS production due to oxygen defects and electronic modulation, demonstrating potent antibacterial efficacy in vitro/vivo.

Prognostic Utility of the Preoperative Cachexia Index in Patients Undergoing Emergency Laparotomy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
The preoperative cachexia index, incorporating muscle mass, nutritional status, and inflammation, predicts in‐hospital and one‐year mortality in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy. This simple index may aid in risk stratification and perioperative decision‐making in high‐risk surgical patients. ABSTRACT Aim Emergency laparotomy is associated with
