Functional Imaging of the Liver
Seminars in Ultrasound, CT and MRI, 2013Anatomical-based imaging is used widely for the evaluation of diffuse and focal liver, including detection, characterization, and therapy response assessment. However, a limitation of anatomical-based imaging is that structural changes may occur relatively late in a disease process.

Abstract 1. 1. The half-life ( t 1 2 ) of galactose (0.5 g/kg b.w.) and of bromsulfalein (5 mg/kg) was used as a measure for the functional capacity of the liver in respectively 90 and 45 controls all over 1 year of age. 2. 2. It was found both for the galactose and bromsulfalein group that in infants and children the elimination ...

The liver function results from the interaction of anatomical, histological and biochemical aspects. Thus the concept of functioning liver mass must be related to the many biological aspects involved in the process under evaluation, and its measure can be viewed as a virtual parameter averaging the liver function.
