Publisher Summary This chapter describes liver function. Liver function tests generally indicate either cell injury or the response to that injury. The majority of hepatic disorders are observed pathologically as hepatic cell necrosis, intrahepatic or extra hepatic bile duct obstruction, and hepatic atrophy and/or fibrosis.

Among the internal workshops of the animal you do not find any which is more famous than the liver. Ancient and modern authors wrote much on it and its function. As usual, I will briefly recall what others have reported, pointing out what I find questionable, and I will bring forward some points which were not discussed by others.

This is a review on the techniques for assessing liver function in critically ill patients.Actually, there is no ideal real-time and bedside technique for assessing liver function in critically ill patients. Though not allowing to differentiate between liver blood flow and cell function, dynamic tests, that is indocyanine green plasma disappearance ...

The term ‘liver function tests’, used typically to describe the liver profile on a laboratory request form, is in fact a misnomer as several of the tests involved are not tests of liver function, but of hepatic enzyme release either as a result of induction or damage. This article will refer to liver profile tests except when specifically referring to

The basic tests utilized in the assessment of liver disease are measurements of bilirubin, SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, total proteins with albumin and ...

LIVER FUNCTION IN HYPERTHYROIDISM
Archives of Internal Medicine, 1932Jaundice is an unusual complication of exophthalmic goiter. Isolated cases have been reported from time to time, and have been collected by Sattler. 1 Assmann 2 has more recently reviewed the subject and added his experience. Clinical evidence of disturbance of the liver in hyperthyroidism is offered by occasional cases with frank jaundice.
