Effect of Embalming Fluid on the Histological Appearance of Organs - A Cadaveric Study

open access: yesIndian Journal of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, 2020
Objective: Histopathological investigations with tissues from embalmed cadavers are generally notconsidered ideal for determining the cause of death at autopsy in forensic medicine. Instead fresh tissuefixed in 10% formalin is usually preferred.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Mitofusin2, a rising star in acute‐on‐chronic liver failure, triggers macroautophagy via the mTOR signalling pathway

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, 2019
Acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a life‐threatening syndrome with poor prognosis. Several studies have begun to prove that mitochondria play a crucial role in liver failure.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Pathomorphology of liver fibrosis in trepanobioptates of patients with steatohepatitis: main types, sources of development, features of progression

open access: yesPatologìâ, 2017
Until recently, among the pathologists, hepatologists and gastroenterologists, a discussion continues on the morphogenesis and gradation of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic patients (NASH) and alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH).

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...
