The ileum as a determinant organ of the functional liver cell mass in rats [PDF]

open access: yesActa Cirúrgica Brasileira, 2013
PURPOSE: To evaluate if the ileum resection changes the functioning liver cell mass, the hepatic metabolism and the biodistribution of radiopharmaceutical in rats.

Thymoma metastatic to liver and pancreas: case report and review of the literature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A 71-year-old man presented with a thymic mass involving the superior vena cava. A mediastinoscopical biopsy initially suggested a diagnosis of type A thymoma.

Matrix Tropism Influences Endometriotic Cell Attachment Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of substrate stiffness and multicellular coculture on endometriotic cell attachment to extracellular matrix‐laden microarrayed islands is reported. This model investigates early endometriotic cell attachment, aiming to capture “lesion initiation events”.

Surgical treatment of stage IV colorectal cancer with synchronous liver metastases : a systematic review and network meta-analysis

open access: yes, 2020
Background: The ideal treatment approach for colorectal cancer (CRC) with synchronous liver metastases (SCRLM) remains debated. We performed a network meta-analysis (NMA) comparing the 'bowel-first' approach (BFA), simultaneous resection (SIM), and the ...

Laparoscopic repeat liver resection [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, 2020
AbstractRecurrence of liver cancers inside the liver are often treated with liver resection (LR). However, increased risks of complications and conversion during operation were reported in laparoscopic repeat LR (LRLR). The indication is still controversial.

Plasma‐Treated Hydrogel for Combined RONS and Chemotherapy Delivery: A Proof‐of‐Concept In Ovo

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores plasma‐treated hydrogels (PTH) as a new way to deliver both reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) directly to tumors. In ovo tests show effects after a single dose, especially in osteosarcoma tumors. Tumor weight decrease, and a resistance‐related protein is reduced.

A Surgical Perspective on Targeted Therapy of Hepatocellular Carcinoma. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the second leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide, is difficult to treat and highly lethal. Since HCC is predominantly diagnosed in patients with cirrhosis, treatment planning must consider both the severity of liver ...

Aptamer Functionalized Hydrogel Dressings for Post‐Surgery Tumor Recurrence Inhibition and Tissue Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Post‐surgical tumor therapy struggles with recurrence and inefficient healing. Anti‐tumor DNA aptamer functionalized gelatin hydrogels, Apt‐GelMA, simultaneously address both issues by suppressing tumor regrowth via targeted tumor cell inhibition and enhancing wound healing through improved cell adhesion and migration. Their biocompatibility, stability,

Surgical Techniques for Liver Resection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, 2006
Major goals during liver resection are the reduction of intraoperative blood loss and avoidance of parenchymal trauma. Despite refinements in many techniques of liver resection over the past 20 years, intraoperative hemorrhage has remained an important issue.

Buckling‐Resistant and Trace‐Stacked (BRATS) Design Enables Aid‐Free Implantation of Flexible Multielectrode Array with Minimized Inflammatory Tissue Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Buckling‐resistant and trace‐stacked (BRATS) intracortical microelectrode arrays (MEAs) eliminate the need for insertion aid and complex surgical setup, resulting in minimal inflammatory tissue response, compared to conventional flexible MEAs inserted with aid. Trace stacking effectively doubled the channel count without increasing the MEA shank width,
