Surgical resection of metachronous hepatic metastases from gastric cancer improves long-term survival: A population-based study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Hepatic metastases are diagnosed synchronously in 3-14% of patients with gastric cancer, and metachronously in up to 37% of patients following ''curative" gastrectomy. Most patients who have gastric cancer and hepatic metastasis are traditionally treated

Liver Resection for Primary Hepatic Neoplasms. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Subtotal hepatic resection was performed in 356 patients; 87 had primary hepatic malignancies, 108 had metastatic tumors, and 161 had benign lesions including 8 traumatic injuries. The global mortality was 4.2%.

Downregulation of sST2, a decoy receptor for interleukin‐33, enhances subcutaneous tumor growth in murine pancreatic cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Subcutaneous implantation of murine Panc02 pancreatic cancer cells depleted of sST2, a soluble decoy receptor for the proinflammatory interleukin‐33 (IL‐33), leads to a decreased number of GLUT4‐positive cancer‐associated adipocytes, reduced levels of the anti‐inflammatory molecule adiponectin, increased phosphorylation of IκBα, elevated Cxcl3 ...

Laparoscopic access is the modern standard for extended liver resection

open access: yesУкраїнський журнал клінічної хірургії
Objective. To evaluate the safety and early results of laparoscopic extended liver resection in case of focal liver pathology by retrospective comparison with the relevant parameters of a similar open intervention. Materials and methods.

Indoleamine 2,3‐dioxygenase 1 inhibition reverses cancer‐associated fibroblast‐mediated immunosuppression in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CAF‐mediated immunosuppression in ovarian cancer is driven by IDO1, reducing T‐cell function. Inhibiting IDO1 restores T‐cell proliferation and cytotoxicity, increases cancer cell apoptosis, and may help overcome CAF‐induced immune suppression in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer. Targeting IDO1 may improve antitumor immunity.

Laparoscopic versus open parenchymal preserving liver resections in the posterosuperior segments (ORANGE Segments): a multicentre, single-blind, randomised controlled trialResearch in context

open access: yesThe Lancet Regional Health. Europe
Summary: Background: An increasing number of liver resections are performed laparoscopically, while laparoscopic resection of lesions in the posterosuperior segments is technically challenging.

NR4A1 Exerts Pro‐Tumor Role in Glioblastoma via Inducing xCT/GPX4‐Regulated Ferroptosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose This study investigates NR4A1's paradoxical roles in glioblastoma (GBM) progression, focusing on its mechanistic link to ferroptosis regulation. We aimed to resolve conflicting reports of NR4A1 as both an oncogene and a tumor suppressor by defining its transcriptional control over xCT/GPX4‐mediated iron homeostasis and its clinical ...

Metachronous liver metastasis after curative gastrectomy for gastric adenocarcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Clinical Oncology, 2014
Purpose: The prognosis of patients with liver metastasis from gastric cancer is poor and the optimal treatment remains undetermined. This study identified prognostic factors for survival of patients with metachronous liver metastasis with no other ...

The measurement of liver resection margins [PDF]

open access: yesHPB, 2004
All tissue shrinks to some degree when placed in formalin fixative solution. The degree of shrinkage of liver tissue has particular relevance to the measurement of resection margins, as the current recommendation is that the surgeon should aim to achieve a resection margin of at least 1 cm. We were unable to find any published data concerning shrinkage
