Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Association between living alone and frailty, and its gender disparity: a multicenter cross-sectional study in Chinese older adults undergoing hospitalisation

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background The association between living alone and frailty has not been systematically investigated in previous studies, among which inconsistent results were yielded.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Associations of living alone and loneliness with neuropsychiatric symptoms in individuals with mild cognitive impairment: A retrospective cross‐sectional study

open access: yesPCN Reports
Aim Living alone and loneliness are recognized risk factors for neuropsychiatric symptoms in older adults. However, the distinct of the objective condition of living alone and subjective loneliness on specific neuropsychiatric symptoms in individuals ...

Influence of geographical residence on perceived community resilience between people of color and white individuals following Hurricane Harvey

open access: yesJournal of Health Equity
Objective The objective of this study was to examine how individual-level factors (e.g., demographic variables) and community-level factors (e.g., median household income in the community, rates of residents living alone) are associated with perceived ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Combined effect of living alone and osteoporosis status on the prevalence of depression in Chinese community-dwelling older population: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
BackgroundGiven the increasing burden of the “silent” depressive symptoms and the significant comorbidity of osteoporosis in the population living alone, this study aimed to investigate the separate and combined impacts of living alone and osteoporosis ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Time-varying living arrangements and suicide death in the general population sample: 14-year causal survival analysis via pooled logistic regression

open access: yesEpidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences
Aims While past research suggested that living arrangements are associated with suicide death, no study has examined the impact of sustained living arrangements and the change in living arrangements. Also, previous survival analysis studies only reported
