Growth dynamics and molecular bases of evolutionary novel jaw extensions in halfbeaks and needlefishes (Beloniformes)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 21, Page 5798-5811, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Evolutionary novelties—derived traits without clear homology found in the ancestors of a lineage—may promote ecological specialization and facilitate adaptive radiations. Examples for such novelties include the wings of bats, pharyngeal jaws of cichlids and flowers of angiosperms.

The phonology of Atchan

open access: yesLanguage and Linguistics Compass, Volume 17, Issue 4, July/August 2023., 2023
Abstract Atchan is a Kwa language spoken by approximately 150,000 people in and around Abidjan in southern Côte d’Ivoire. In this paper, I describe aspects of the phonology of Atchan, including its consonant and vowel inventory, syllable structure, patterns of nasalisation, and lexical and grammatical tone.

Honey bees are the most abundant visitors to Australian watermelon but native stingless bees are equally effective as pollinators

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 3, Issue 4, October–December 2022., 2022
The abundance of the dominant floral visitors across five major watermelon‐growing regions in Australia. Although honey bees were the most abundant pollinators, native taxa including stingless bees and flies also visited flowers and transferred pollen. This highlights the value of using region‐specific pollinator management strategies that include both

Dictating Phenotype, Function, and Fate of Human T Cells with Co‐Stimulatory Antibodies Presented by Filamentous Immune Cell Mimics

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 5, Issue 4, April 2022., 2022
Co‐stimulation is the key to full‐blown T‐cell activation. Filamentous shaped artificial antigen‐presenting cells offer a unique opportunity to directly study the role of combined T‐cell receptor (TCR) and co‐stimulatory receptor stimulation. The phenotype, function, and fate of human T cells after in vitro stimulation are mostly influenced with αCD28 ...

Neurodevelopmental disorder‐causing GRIN1 Y647S variant alters red blood cell physiology in mice

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, February 2026.
Genetically‐modified mice with the Y647S substitution were used to study blood physiology and identify potential biomarkers for GRIN disorder patient stratification. Red blood cells from these mice have increased NMDA receptor mediated calcium influx, indicating a gain‐of‐function phenotype.

Mosaic morphology in Podocnemididae revealed by a new turtle from the Middle Miocene La Venta Biome, Colombia

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 11, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract A new genus and species of podocnemidid turtle, Shakiremys colombiana, is described here from the Middle Miocene La Venta Biome, located in south‐central Colombia. The new taxon is represented by two specimens: one consisting of a complete skull and articulated shell, and the other of an articulated shell only.
