On convergence of Lloyd's method I

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1992
Summary: Although Lloyd's method I for optimal quantization was proposed more than thirty years ago and has been frequently referred to in the literature, its convergence has so far not been shown. This correspondence proves that Lloyd's method I converges for a large class of error measures, if the density function is continuous, positive, and defined

Exponential rate of convergence for Lloyd's method I

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1982
For a random variable with finite second moment and log-concave density, a unique quantizer exists which produces the minimum expected encoding error, using squared-error distortion. An algorithm given by Lloyd (Lloyd's Method I) yields a sequence of quantizers which converges to the optimum quantizer.

Accelerated Lloyd's Method for Resampling 3D Point Clouds

IEEE Transactions on Multimedia
We present an efficient approach to generating uniformly distributed resampling points of raw 3D point clouds. A key contribution for making such a resampling method both practical and efficient is the construction of the centroidal Voronoi tessellation ...

Monotony of Lloyd's method II for log-concave density and convex error weighting function (Corresp.)

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1984
Let X be a random variable with log-concave probability density. In a recent paper [\textit{J. C. Kieffer}, ibid. IT-29, 42-47 (1983; Zbl 0521.94005)], the reviewer showed that the expression \(E\rho\) (\(| X- Q(X)|)\), viewed as a function of the N-level quantizer Q, attains its minimum at a unique Q, provided the function \(\rho\) is convex, strictly

Method to fabricate orthogonal crossed gratings based on a dual Lloyd's mirror interferometer

Optics Communications, 2016
Abstract We propose a dual Lloyd's mirror interferometer with two mutually perpendicular mirrors to fabricate orthogonal crossed gratings through a single exposure. Theoretical analysis shows that in this interferometer the angle between two main periodic directions of the crossed grating is solely determined by the normal directions of the two Lloyd'
