Fast convergence method for Lloyd-Max quantiser design

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1986
In Max quantiser design, a numerical method is usually employed to solve the Lloyd-Max equations. Poor accuracy and slow convergence rate are observed in most of the algorithms used. A fast convergence method is proposed here to generate the Max quantiser with minimum mean-square error.

Joint Estimation of Source Range and Depth Using a Bottom-Deployed Vertical Line Array in Deep Water

open access: yesSensors, 2017
This paper presents a joint estimation method of source range and depth using a bottom-deployed vertical line array (VLA). The method utilizes the information on the arrival angle of direct (D) path in space domain and the interference characteristic of ...

Edge Detecting New Physics the Voronoi Way [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We point out that interesting features in high energy physics data can be determined from properties of Voronoi tessellations of the relevant phase space.

Optical method for distance and displacement measurements of the probe-sample separation in a scanning near-field optical microscope

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2016
In this work, we present an alternative optical method to determine the probe-sample separation distance in a scanning near-field optical microscope. The experimental method is based in a Lloyd’s mirror interferometer and offers a measurement precision ...

Introduction to vector quantization and its applications for numerics*

open access: yesESAIM: Proceedings and Surveys, 2015
We present an introductory survey to optimal vector quantization and its first applications to Numerical Probability and, to a lesser extent to Information Theory and Data Mining. Both theoretical results on the quantization rate of a

New K-means Clustering Method Using Minkowski’s Distance as its Metric

open access: yesBritish journal of computer, networking and information technology, 2021
Cluster analysis is an unsupervised learning method that classifies data points, usually multidimensional into groups (called clusters) such that members of one cluster are more similar (in some sense) to each other than those in other clusters.

A simple geometric method for navigating the energy landscape of centroidal Voronoi tessellations [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, 2020
Finding optimal centroidal Voronoi tessellations (CVTs) of a 2D domain presents a paradigm for navigating an energy landscape whose desirable critical points have sufficiently small basins of attractions that they are inaccessible with Monte-Carlo ...

Global wave loads on a damaged ship [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A computational tool was applied based on a two dimensional linear method to predict the hydrodynamic loads for damaged ships. Experimental tests on a ship model have also been carried out to predict the hydrodynamic loads in various design conditions ...

CML: the commonKADS conceptual modelling language [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We present a structured language for the specification of knowledge models according to the CommonKADS methodology. This language is called CML (Conceptual Modelling Language) and provides both a structured textual notation and a diagrammatic notation ...
