Leaf heat tolerance in a native Californian shrub responds in expected and unexpected ways to differences in range, season, and sunlight exposure

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Earth's ecosystems are experiencing wide‐ranging impacts from global climate change, including increased average and extreme temperatures. These temperature shifts can drastically affect plant physiology, threatening the future of even common plant species. Here, we focus on photosynthetic function in a native Southern California shrub species.

Predicting Failure at Initiation of High‐Flow Nasal Oxygen in Patients With COVID‐19: Literature Review, Development and Internal Validation of a Prediction Model

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
A prediction model was developed for high‐flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) failure in acute hypoxemic patients with COVID‐19 pneumonia using predictors available prior to HFNO initiation. This stable and good‐performing model can assist in clinical decision‐making at a critical point, aiding timely intervention for patients at risk of HFNO failure.

Safety and efficacy of laryngeal mask airway placement in term of oropharyngeal leak pressure: A comparison between conventional insertion and laryngoscope guided insertion

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: The effectiveness of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) through conventional insertion technique versus laryngoscope-guided insertion is a debatable issue. Use of only fiberoptic scoring for assessment has shown conflicting results.

Diagnostic Yield of EBUS Mediastinal Cryobiopsy Versus TBNA in Suspected Lymphoproliferative Disorders: A Prospective Multicentre Study

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
We assessed the diagnostic yield of EBUS‐guided transbronchial mediastinal cryobiopsy (EBUS‐TBMC) compared with EBUS‐transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS‐TBNA) in patients with suspected mediastinal lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs). EBUS‐TBMC was superior to EBUS‐TBNA and achieved a high diagnostic yield in patients with suspected mediastinal ...

Competition Policy and Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 1 (No Poverty): The Role of Mergers and Acquisitions Adjudications in South Africa

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT South Africa faces persistently high poverty and inequality alongside a highly concentrated economic structure, raising questions about whether merger control, especially public‐interest provisions, can contribute to poverty reduction. However, empirical evidence directly linking merger adjudication outcomes to poverty remains limited.

Local labor market frictions and platform‐based entrepreneurship

open access: yesStrategic Entrepreneurship Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary Building on prior research about the heterogeneous impact of labor shocks on individuals' propensity to start businesses, we explore how local labor market frictions affect individuals' selection into platform‐based entrepreneurship.

Approaching Gold‐Standard Sensitivity in a Portable and Versatile Gold Nanoprisms Thermoplasmonic Platform for Lateral Flow Detection of Biomolecules

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This study presents a plasmonic thermal lateral flow (ThermoLFA) biosensor for ultrasensitive, early detection of biomolecules. By combining plasmonic gold nanoprisms (AuNPrs) and near‐infrared (NIR) laser activation, it enhances signal output beyond conventional LFAs.

Synergistic Design of a SiO2–CNT–Amorphous Carbon 3D Host for Stable SEI Formation and Long‐Term Cycling Stability of Lithium Metal Anodes

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
SiO2@AC‐CNT microspheres, produced by spray pyrolysis and carbonization, present a 3D host where SiO2 is uniformly embedded within the CNT‐amorphous carbon framework. The architecture balances electronic conductivity and lithiophilicity, guiding uniform, dendrite‐free lithium deposition.
