An Assessment Procedure of the Crashworthiness of an LNG Tanker Side Structure
SHIP TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH, 2010In this paper a procedure is presented for the conceptual design of a crashworthy side structure of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. The crashworthiness of an LNG tanker is assessed taking into account the deformation restrictions of the containment system. A particle swarm algorithm is used for the structure optimisation.

A Gas Turbine Powered LNG Tanker
ASME 1973 International Gas Turbine Conference and Products Show, 1973The author discusses some of the design features of the power plant for the world’s first gas turbine LNG carrier. The basic features of the dual fuel system are examined with respect to the use of LNG boil-off gas fuel, and marine operating and automation requirements. Marine classification society design criteria and operating constraints are briefly

Status Report on LNG Tanker Designs
1995The largest LNG project, the El Paso project, was finally approved by the Federal Power Commission (FPC) in October 1972, some fifteen months after the hearings were held; but it took El Paso Natural Gas until March 1973 to finalize the liquefaction plant financing and an additional three months to order the three ships it requires.

Modelling risk of a collision between a LNG tanker and a harbour tug
Marine Systems & Ocean Technology, 2012This paper introduces a model to estimate the consequences and related risk resulting from a collision between a LNG tanker and a tug during harbour entrance manoeuvres, The analysis is carried out for Zeebrugge harbour, where very dense traffic, including LNG tankers, is observed.

The Lay-Up and Reactivation of LNG Tankers: Lessons Learned
Journal of Ship Production, 1994The Liquid natural gas (LNG) industry went from a projected boom in the 1970's to a contracted industry in the 1980's, when many ships were either permanently or temporarily laid up. In the 1990s, many laid-up LNG carriers are being reactivated after as many as 12 years in lay-up.

Improving the efficiency of steam plant on LNG tankers
International Journal of Science and Research ArchiveThis study seeks to investigate ways of improving the efficiency of a conventional steam plant, by converting to Ultra steam plant on an existing LNG Carrier. The design proposal is centered on existing technology. In this dissertation, the economic and environmental analyses of different means of propulsion were carried out, and reason the UST is the ...
