Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Simulation Analysis of Influence of Flexible Gear Wall Thickness on Its Performance

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2018
The flexible gear is the key parts of harmonic gear reducers, and its performance directly determine the overall condition of harmonic drives. In order to seek the basic law of influence of flexible gears wall thickness on its performance to make use of ...

Stresses and deformations in elliptical contacts [PDF]

open access: yes
Topics presented deal with defining conformal and nonconformal surfaces, curvature sum and difference, and surface and subsurface stresses in elliptical contacts. Load-deflection relationships for nonconformal contacts are developed.

Robotized FSW – Evolution of forces and torque with nonlinear welds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The main purpose of the article is to study the evolution of the welding forces and torque with non-straight welding path. The main studies performed on forces and torque are usually done on plane straight welding path when the processing parameter are ...

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Optical strain measurement for the modeling of surgical meshes and their porosity

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
The porosity of surgical meshes makes them flexible for large elastic deformation and establishes the healing conditions of good tissue in growth. The biomechanic modeling of orthotropic and compressible materials requires new materials models and ...
