Abstract A substantial body of literature has considered warfare a fundamental driver of fiscal capacity. We argue that the nature of the tax base available to governments can either foster or constrain the ability and incentives of central elites to impose their legitimacy once the war is over.

Enhancing the Evidence for Care in Underserved Bleeding Disorders Communities
ABSTRACT Background Major advances in haemophilia care have not translated equitably across all populations. Occupational Licensing, Intergenerational Occupational Persistence and Social Mobility
ABSTRACT We study the relationship between occupational regulation and intergenerational occupational persistence. Using the UK Household Longitudinal Study (2009–2024), we find that individuals are significantly more likely to enter a licensed occupation if a parent also worked in one, with the effect strongest in occupations where regulatory hurdles ...

Abstract We propose the novel p‐branch‐and‐bound method for solving two‐stage stochastic programming problems whose deterministic equivalents are represented by non‐convex mixed‐integer quadratically constrained quadratic programming (MIQCQP) models. The precision of the solution generated by the p‐branch‐and‐bound method can be arbitrarily adjusted by

Photovoltaic Decomposition Method Based on Multi-Scale Modeling and Multi-Feature Fusion
Deep learning-based Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) methods have been widely applied to residential load identification. However, photovoltaic (PV) loads exhibit strong non-stationarity, high dependence on weather conditions, and strong coupling ...

Heterogeneity in Manufacturing Growth Risk
Abstract We analyze differences in output growth risk with respect to financial conditions across U.S. manufacturing industries. Using a multilevel quantile regression approach, we find that industries exhibit heterogeneous increases of downside risk in times of tight financial conditions, while upside potential remains stable.

Estimating National and Foreign Trade Elasticities Using Generalized Transport Costs
ABSTRACT We introduce the definition of two distinct trade elasticities corresponding to imports from regions located in the same country (national elasticities) and foreign regions located in other countries (foreign elasticities). We resort to a three‐tier nested CES utility structure to derive the corresponding demand gravity equations.
