Fatigue load sequence effect ranked by critical available energy density

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 1990
Abstract The ways with which variable amplitude load spectra are simplified by taking only a portion of the load history as a block and applying it repeatedly make the prediction of fatigue life a nonunique procedure. This is because the process of damage cumulation is sensitive to alteration in load sequence.

Effect of Cognitive Load on a Random Sequence Generation Task

2019 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP), 2019
Executive functions are set of processes of human cognition which coordinate information, schedule actions and control attention. Random sequence generation is a crucial marker of executive functioning. The inability to generate random sequences can reveal a lot about the underlying impairments, if any.

Effect of load sequences on crack propagation under random and program loading

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1973
Abstract Crack propagation was studied in 2024-T3 Alclad sheet specimens under two types of random loading and under program loading with a very short period (40 cycles) and program loading with a longer period (40,000 cycles). In the program tests Lo-Hi, Lo-Hi-Lo and Hi-Lo sequences were employed. The loads were based on a gust spectrum.

Effects of cyclic axial loading sequences on piles in sand

Géotechnique Letters, 2016
The cyclic axial behaviour of piled foundations in sand is studied using centrifuge tests. Model piles are partially jacked in flight. Loads are applied to identify cyclic tension loading effects in stable and meta-stable zones on pile behaviour and physical failure. Failure occurs with larger displacements than those achieved during monotonic loading

Observing Load Sequence Effects on Simulated and Experimental Fatigue Crack Growth Occurrence

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
Load cycle interactions can have a significant effect in fatigue crack growth (FCG) under variable amplitude loading. Studying of FCG and fatigue life calculation under spectrum loading is important for the reliable life prediction of engineering structures. Many models have been proposed, but yet no universal model exists.

Effects of Load Sequence and Block Loading on the Fatigue Response of Fiber-Reinforced Composites

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2002
The vast majority of fatigue loading experiments are constant-amplitude tests, although this type of fatigue loading is hardly present in real in-service fatigue loading conditions. However, due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of variable-amplitude experiments, their effect is often assessed by performing block loading experiments with ...

The load sequence effects on structures’ ultimate limit strength evaluation

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2011
Abstract This paper intends to draw attention to the consideration of load sequence effects on the structures’ installation and upgrading/reinforcement practice. The paper first summarises four types of load sequence effects encountered in structural engineering practice.

Effect of a Loading Sequence on Threshold Stress Intensity Determination

1973
The effect of a loading sequence on the stress corrosion cracking of AISI 4340 steel and Ladish D6AC steel in an aqueous environment has been studied with double-cantilever beam specimens. The loading sequence was found to influence an incubation time period for the initiation of crack propagation as the stress intensity (K) changed.

Experimental investigation of random loading sequence effect on fatigue crack growth

Materials & Design, 2011
Abstract An experimental study is proposed to investigate the effect of random loading sequence effect on the fatigue crack growth behavior of Al 7075-T6. The testing matrix includes different overload cycle percentage, overload ratios, and deterministic and random loading sequences in the current investigation.

Effect of load sequence on fatigue life of rail steel

1992
Research addressing rail failures in the United States has been an ongoing effort by the government and industry. Particular attention has been given to defects known as detail fractures because of their tendency to comprise the most commonly found defects.
