Scrape Loading/Dye Transfer Assay

2016
The scrape loading/dye transfer (SL/DT) technique is a simple functional assay for the simultaneous assessment of gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) in a large population of cells. The equipment needs are minimal and are typically met in standard cell biology labs, and SL/DT is the simplest and quickest of all the assays that measure ...

Load Transfer in Pressure Injected Anchors

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1978
Two instrumented pressure injected (grouted) soil anchors were installed as part of tied-back excavation support systems in dense sands. Strain gages were used to determine the distribution of load in the anchors during load testing and subsequent excavation.

Winkler load-transfer analysis for laterally loaded piles

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2016
The Winkler modulus for a vertical beam buried in elastic soil is reassessed for the problem of a horizontal loaded pile in the framework of linear elasticity. By matching the integral solution in elastic continuum and the expression with the elastic Winkler modulus, the subgrade modulus of an infinitely long pile embedded into elastic space is ...

Visco-elastic load transfer models for axially loaded piles

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2000
The author proposes several nonlinear viscoelastic shaft and base load transfer models, for step- and ramp-type loadings, respectively. Some closed-form solutions are given for nonlinear soil response, and the results are compared with previous numerical data.

Load Transfer for Axially Loaded Piles in Clay

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1966
An analytical method for developing a theoretical load-settlement curve for axially loaded piles in clay is presented. The method is based on the correlation of the ratio of load transfer to soil shear strength as a function of pile movement. The results of studies of field tests of instrumented piles and laboratory tests of small piles in clay are ...

Optimization of load-transfer and load-diffusion

Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, 2017
The problem of optimization of a stringer, or a stiffener, attached to an elastic infinite plate is investigated. The plate is exposed to tensioning by uniformly distributed forces, and also to contact stresses due to forces as a result of enforced continuity with the reinforcing stiffener.

Load Transfer Mechanisms in Wind‐loaded Cylinders

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989
Load‐transfer mechanisms in wind‐loaded cylindrical shells are described and interpreted using a simple analytical model. This model generalizes to the higher load harmonics (n>1) the well‐known beam‐on‐elastic‐foundation analogy, which is so useful for axisymmetric pressure loadings.

Load Transfer in Composite Construction

Structures Congress 2010, 2010
In order for dissimilar materials to act in a composite manner, forces must be transferred between the materials so that they achieve a state of internal equilibrium with one another. Previous editions of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Specification briefly address load transfer; however, these provisions are quite limited in scope

Multiple-Load Transfer

2017
Multiple loads need be charged from a single source in some practical scenarios, such as a charging platform for many consumer electronics, wireless charging for sensor networks. Different application scenarios require different multiple-load structures.

Pile load transfer from static load test inversion

DFI Journal - The Journal of the Deep Foundations Institute, 2016
This paper presents an inversion scheme to estimate the distribution of load in a deep foundation from the load–movement curve measured at the head. The method may be useful in situations where static load tests have been performed on test piles that are not instrumented with strain gages or telltales, or the instrumentation data are unreliable.
