Long‐term survival after adult epilepsy surgery: Mortality and predictors in a large cohort

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Long‐term survival data in adults undergoing surgery for drug‐resistant focal epilepsy remain limited. We examined mortality patterns and predictors in a large cohort followed for over 30 years. Methods Adults who underwent epilepsy surgery (1990–2022) were analyzed.

The Bacteriology of the Urine in Lobar Pneumonia [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Infectious Diseases, 1916

Impact of Immunosuppressive Drugs on Patients With Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Percutaneous left atrial appendage closure (LAAC) reduces the risk of thromboembolic stroke in patients with non‐valvular atrial fibrillation who cannot tolerate long‐term oral anticoagulation. However, outcomes after LAAC in patients requiring chronic immunosuppressive therapy (IMS) remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate

Utilization of Dysphagia Services Among Older Adults Hospitalized With Pneumonia in a Large Sample of US Hospitals

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pneumonia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, with increased risk for individuals with neurodegenerative conditions. Although dysphagia is a significant risk factor for pneumonia pathogenesis, there is a paucity of data on dysphagia management in patients hospitalized with pneumonia.

Microplastics in Human Bronchoalveolar Lavage Fluid

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
We established a microplastic detection method using bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. The method detected microplastics, particularly those under 10 μm, in all patients, linked to lung and systemic inflammation. The potential relationship between microplastics and lung and systemic inflammation provides a foundation for larger studies on their health ...
