A Tarif System for Loblolly Pine

Forest Science, 1985
Abstract The volume/basal area line, as the basis of a tarif system for natural and planted stands of loblolly pine in North and South Carolina, Georgia, and north Florida, is discussed and shown to be inappropriate. A new method of developing tarif tables is presented, using a nonlinear volume-dbh function harmonized by mean stand ...

Compatible taper equation for loblolly pine

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1986
Cao's compatible, segmented polynomial taper equation (Q. V. Cao, H. E. Burkhart, and T. A. Max. For. Sci. 26: 71–80. 1980) is fitted to a large loblolly pine data set from the southeastern United States. Equations are presented that predict diameter at a given height, height to a given top diameter, and volume below a given position on the main stem.

Breeding Shortleaf × Loblolly Pine Hybrids for the Development of Fusiform Rust-Resistant Loblolly Pine

Southern Journal of Applied Forestry, 1986
Abstract A fusiform rust-resistant strain of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) is being developed by interspecific hybridization with shortleaf pine (P. echinata Mill.). Backcrosses of the hybrid to loblolly pine have early height growth equal to loblolly pine and retain a high level of fusiform rust resistance.

Ethephon Advances Loblolly Pine Needle Cast

Forest Science, 1977
Abstract Potted 1-0 loblolly pine seedlings sprayed with 5,000 ppm acid equivalents of ethephon in water in early July promptly abscised most of their year-old fascicles. Neither survival nor current-year needles were affected, and lateral branching was reduced.

Precommercial Thinning of Loblolly Pine

Journal of Forestry, 1969
Abstract Machine and hand thinnings beginning at age 7 increased height growth and yield in an overly dense loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) stand. In order to be most profitable, it appears that precommercial thinning should be done by machine at age 2 or 3 to at least an 8- by 8-foot spacing.

Seasonal Discoloration of Loblolly Pine Foliage

Forest Science, 1966
Abstract The foliage of a plantation of Pinus taeda L. located on a somewhat poorly drained alluvial soil became quite yellowed during winter months. When the chemical content of the yellowed foliage was compared with the content of foliage from a normal stand, the only apparent difference was in total chlorophyll; the normal foliage ...
