Impact of Risk and Uncertainty in the Provision of Local and Global Environmental Goods : An Experimental Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
Uncertainties and risks in the decision making process are abundant in the area of environmental economics, irrespective of whether the problems being discussed are local or global.

Spectral Analysis of the Stromlo-APM Survey I. Spectral Properties of Galaxies

open access: yes, 1999
We analyze spectral properties of 1671 galaxies from the Stromlo-APM survey, selected to have 15 < b_J < 17.15 and having a mean redshift z = 0.05. This is a representative local sample of field galaxies, so the global properties of the galaxy population

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Temperature Change of Shanghai and Its Response to Global Warming and Urbanization

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2016
Shanghai is the biggest metropolis in China, and its local temperature change is affected not only by global warming but also by urbanization. Integrating the Mann-Kendall test, EMD (Empirical Mode Decomposition), Cross Wavelet Analysis and statistical ...

Gossip Dual Averaging for Decentralized Optimization of Pairwise Functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In decentralized networks (of sensors, connected objects, etc.), there is an important need for efficient algorithms to optimize a global cost function, for instance to learn a global model from the local data collected by each computing unit.

On the convergence rate of distributed gradient methods for finite-sum optimization under communication delays

open access: yes, 2019
Motivated by applications in machine learning and statistics, we study distributed optimization problems over a network of processors, where the goal is to optimize a global objective composed of a sum of local functions.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

A link between the global surface area receiving daily precipitation, wet-day frequency and probability of extreme rainfall

open access: yesDiscover Water
Both the total amount of precipitation falling on Earth’s surface and the fraction of the surface area on which it falls represent two key global climate indicators for Earth’s global hydrological cycle.
