Local Action Groups in Prevention of Child Accidents
Local action groups, organized by public health nurses, were formed in eight municipalities of Norway in order to prevent childhood accidents. The process of establishing such action groups and their way of operating are reported. The study revealed a potential for local activities in health promotion and yielded experience worth considering when ...

Group action on local dendrites
Topology and its Applications, 2018Some questions involving finite generated group actions in local dendrites are considered. The following are the main results. Theorem 1. Let \(G\) be a group acting by homeomorphisms on a local dendrite \(X\). Then, any minimal set \(M\) of \(G\) has one of the properties (a) \(M\) is a finite orbit; (b) \(M\) is a Cantor set; (c) \(M\) is a circle ...

Actions of a Locally Compact Group with Zero
Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1971In [2] we find the definition of a locally compact group with zero as a locally compact Hausdorff topological semigroup, S, which contains a non-isolated point, 0, such that G = S – {0} is a group. Hofmann shows in [2] that 0 is indeed a zero for S, G is a locally compact topological group, and the unit, 1, of G is the unit of S.

Rigidity of Group Actions on Locally Finite Trees
Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society, 1994Call a group \(K\) unsplittable if, whenever \(K\) acts without inversions on a tree \(X\), each element of \(K\) fixes some vertex of \(X\). We prove rigidity theorems which include for example: Theorem. Let \(X\) be a locally finite tree, with more than one vertex, on which a group \(G\) acts without inversions.

Actions of Locally Compact Groups
2011The basic properties of measure-preserving actions of more general groups are described. Two important examples of actions generated by commuting group automorphisms are introduced, and their mixing properties described. Some of the basic machinery of the ergodic theory of groups actions is developed: Haar measures, regular representations, amenability,
