Elliptical Local Binary Patterns for Face recognition
International audienceIn this paper, we propose a novel variant of Local Binary Patterns (LBP) so-called Elliptical Local Binary Patterns (ELBP) for face recognition.

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Perceptual Image Hashing Fusing Zernike Moments and Saliency-Based Local Binary Patterns
This paper proposes a novel perceptual image hashing scheme that robustly combines global structural features with local texture information for image authentication.

It is challenging to recognize smoke from visual scenes due to large variations of smoke colors, textures and shapes. To improve robustness, we propose a novel feature extraction method based on similarity and dissimilarity matching measures of Local ...

Face image variations such as expression and pose radically increase the intra-class variations which affect the performance of feature extraction methods. It is desirable to extract more robust local discriminative features to effectively represent such

Weight-optimal Local Binary Patterns
. In this work, we have proposed a learning paradigm for obtaining weight-optimal local binary patterns (WoLBP). We first reformulate the LBP problem into matrix multiplication with all the bitmaps flattened and then resort to the Fisher ratio criterion ...

Improving non-local video denoising with local binary patterns and image quantization
The most challenging aspect of video and image denoising is to preserve texture and small details, while filtering out noise. To tackle such problem, we present two novel variants of the 3D Non-Local Means (NLM3D) which are suitable for videos and 3D ...

Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Local Similarity Number and its Application to Object Tracking
In this paper, we present a tracking technique utilizing a simple saliency visual descriptor. Initially, we define a visual descriptor named local similarity pattern that mimics the famous texture operator local binary patterns.
