The local dependence function

open access: yes, 1996
In the context of recent interest in extending scalar association measures to local association functions, attention is drawn to the local dependence function, the mixed partial derivative of the log density, proposed by Holland & Wang (1987). We provide

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Socio-Economic Dependence of Peasant to Local Collector on Rice Farming System

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Sosial Mamangan, 2018
The poverty of peasant in Gunung Talang is caused by low income, low education and limited land. The purpose of this research is to analyze the bases of the peasant socio-economic dependence to the local collector (local assemblers) on rice farming ...

Local Linear Fitting Under Near Epoch Dependence: Uniform consistency with Convergence Rates [PDF]

open access: yes
Local linear fitting is a popular nonparametric method in statistical and econometric modelling. Lu and Linton (2007) established the pointwise asymptotic distribution for the local linear estimator of a nonparametric regression function under the ...

A Mobility Calculus with Local and Dependent Types [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We introduce an ambient-based calculus that combines ambient mobility with process mobility, uses group names to collect ambients with homologous features, and exploits co-moves and runtime type checking to implement flexible policies for controlling process activities. Types rely on group names and, to support dynamicity, may depend on group variables.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Ubiquitylation-dependent localization of PLK1 in mitosis

open access: yesNature Cell Biology, 2013
Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) critically regulates mitosis through its dynamic localization to kinetochores, centrosomes and the midzone. The polo-box domain (PBD) and activity of PLK1 mediate its recruitment to mitotic structures, but the mechanisms regulating PLK1 dynamics remain poorly understood. Here, we identify PLK1 as a target of the cullin 3 (CUL3)

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Planning for Integral Development. Public Policies, Economic Growth and Social Improvements in Santa Rosa (Ecuador) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Spatial and Organizational Dynamics, 2014
Ecuador is immersed, since the adoption of the 2008 Constitution, in a process of economic, social and political changes, following the steps on their path to a more equal, post-extractive and democratic society.

MAPS OF CONTINUOUS SPATIAL DEPENDENCE [PDF]

open access: yes
Heterogeneity is one of the distinguishing features in spatial econometric models. It is a frequent problem in applied work and can be very damaging for statistical inference.
