Fast localization in indoor environments

2009 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence for Security and Defense Applications, 2009
In this paper, we propose an algorithm for fast indoor localization. The algorithm does not require any sensors to be installed; instead, localization is determined using image matching. Our system studies (or learns) the indoor environment through detecting image junctions using the so-called JUDOCA detector.

Self-Localization in the RoboCup Environment

2000
Knowing the position and orientation of a mobile robot situated in an environment is a critical element for effectively accomplishing complex tasks requiring autonomous navigation. Techniques for robot self-localization have been extensively studied in the past, but an effective general solution does not exist, and it is often necessary to integrate ...

Continuous localization in changing environments

Proceedings 1997 IEEE International Symposium on Computational Intelligence in Robotics and Automation CIRA'97. 'Towards New Computational Principles for Robotics and Automation', 2002
Continuous localization is a technique that allows a robot to maintain an accurate estimate of its location by performing regular small corrections to its odometry. Continuous localization uses an evidence grid representation, a common representation scheme that is used by other map-dependent processes, such as path planning.

Their local environment

5 to 7 Educator, 2009
The study of geography enables children to develop a range of thinking skills, particularly those needed to develop an understanding of sustainable development. Children can be encouraged to use their thinking skills to:

Localism and the Environment

Sociology Compass, 2008
Abstract Localism, understood here as a movement to regain sovereignty over the local economy in an era of globalization, offers an alternative economic development strategy to that of the high‐tech, export‐oriented manufacturing cluster.

Mobile localization in outdoor environments

2008 International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks, 2008
Due to the advent of many location based applications, mobile localization in outdoor environments has recently attracted much attention. Many existing localization solutions rely primarily on a hybrid wireless network/dead reckoning (DR) method, as the regular wireless network can hardly estimate a location with satisfactory accuracy in bad channel ...

Subsidiary research and development, and the local environment

International Business Review, 2004
Abstract Multinational enterprises (MNEs) increasingly seek to optimise their global innovative capabilities by incorporating subsidiary-specific advantages in different countries. But how important are the different location advantages for subsidiary investments in research and development?

Localization in Inconsistent WiFi Environments

2019
As WiFi becomes more and more popular, indoor environments are often covered with access points (APs) many of which are temporarily generated by mobile devices. On the other hand, more and more infrastructural APs are equipped with beamforming capabilities which adjust radiation patterns according to client locations. These APs have large variations of

Local authentication in insecure environments

Information Processing Letters, 1987
Abstract A local authentication mechanism in which system information such as user identifiers must be protected from both codebreaking and faking is proposed. The key is the two-step usage of public key cryptosystem which allows the public decryption.
