Anomaly Detection Based on Local Nearest Neighbor Distance Descriptor in Crowded Scenes

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
We propose a novel local nearest neighbor distance (LNND) descriptor for anomaly detection in crowded scenes. Comparing with the commonly used low-level feature descriptors in previous works, LNND descriptor has two major advantages.

An Efficient Retrieval System for Biomedical Images Based on Radial Associated Laguerre Moments

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The ability of any retrieval system to extract features by using its feature descriptor is the primary criterion to measure its efficiency. In this paper a novel technique for feature extraction of biomedical images is presented.

Local feature descriptors based ECG beat classification

open access: yesHealth Information Science and Systems, 2020
ECG beat type analysis is important in the detection of various heart diseases. The ECG beats give useful information about the status of the monitored heart condition. Up to now, various artificial intelligence-based methods have been proposed for ECG based heart failure detection.

A Situational Assessment of the Diagnostic Landscape and Organizational Readiness to Implement Next‐Generation Sequencing at Two Childhood Cancer Treatment Centers in Ghana

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) has emerged as a promising approach to improve diagnostic accuracy, but its feasibility in low‐ and middle‐income countries remains unknown. This study characterized the diagnostic landscape and assessed organizational readiness for NGS implementation at two childhood cancer treatment centers in Accra ...

Precise Pitch Control in Real Time Corpus-Based Concatenative Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The need for fine-tuned microtonal pitch combined with the timbral richness of corpus-based concatenative synthesis has led to the development of a new tool for corpus-based pitch and loudness control in real time with CATART.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Simultaneous feature selection and parameter optimisation using an artificial ant colony : case study of melting point prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present a novel feature selection algorithm, Winnowing Artificial Ant Colony (WAAC), that performs simultaneous feature selection and model parameter optimisation for the development of predictive quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR ...

Background Subtraction Using Dominant Directional Pattern

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Background subtraction technique is commonly used in foreground segmentation problem. Most of the existing color or intensity feature-based background subtraction methods suffer in non-stationary environments, such as presence of illumination variations.

An Evaluation of Local Feature Detectors and Descriptors for Infrared Images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper provides a comparative performance evaluation of local features for infrared (IR) images across different combinations of common detectors and descriptors. Although numerous studies report comparisons of local features designed for ordinary visual images, their performance on IR images is far less charted.
