Automated localization of retinal features
Applied Optics, 2011Retinal fundus images are widely used in the diagnosis and treatment of various eye diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. A computer-aided retinal fundus image analysis could provide an immediate detection and characterization of retinal features prior to specialist inspection.

An application of an active method in order to compute highly accurate 3D localization of point features from few projections is presented. The angle of projection of the image is controlled by the system and directed to extract 3D information from the environment in a manner leading to accurate location in less computation.

Most common feature selection algorithms are primarily oriented toward favoring features that are at least somewhat predictive over the entire domain of the feature set. This predictivity may be nonlinear, and it may interact with other features, but such a predictor will be at a significant advantage over more powerful but only locally predictive ...

Robust facial feature localization by coupled features
Proceedings Fourth IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (Cat. No. PR00580), 2002We consider the problem of robust localization of faces and some of their facial features. The task arises, e.g., in the medical field of visual analysis of facial paresis. We detect faces and facial features by means of appropriate DCT coefficients that we obtain by neatly using the coding capabilities of a JPEG hardware compressor.

Automatic Facial Features Localization
International Conference on Computational Intelligence for Modelling, Control and Automation and International Conference on Intelligent Agents, Web Technologies and Internet Commerce (CIMCA-IAWTIC'06), 2005Facial features localization is an important part of many applications such as face recognition, computer-human interface, and surveillance. A way to determine the facial features automatically, without the participation of a human, would be desirable. In this work, we use the active shape models and evolution strategies, to find the facial features in

From local features to local regions
Proceedings of the 19th ACM international conference on Multimedia, 2011Local features are omnipresent in computer vision applications and an important building block for applications like object recognition and image retrieval. Such applications often involve feature matching or use an inverted index to efficiently retrieve similar local features for a given query.

3D Object Localization Using Local Shape Features
2006 9th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision, 2006This paper proposes a method to localize a 3D object in cluttered environment. Model of the object is represented by local shape features, computed from some reference images. Localization is performed by stereo images captured simultaneously by a pair of calibrated cameras. First the object is recognized in both images, using the local shape features.

Self-localization through color features detection
ICAR '05. Proceedings., 12th International Conference on Advanced Robotics, 2005., 2005Self-localization plays a fundamental role in all the activities of a service mobile robot, from simple point-to-point navigation to complex fetch-and-carry tasks. In particular, in presence of an environment which changes dynamically, a trade-off must be found between apparently opposite characteristics: uniqueness (i.e.

Curbing Feature Coding: Strictly Local Feature Assignment
2020Graf (2017) warns that every syntactic formalism faces a severe overgeneration problem because of the hidden power of subcategorization. Any constraint definable in monadic second-order logic can be compiled into the category system so that it is indirectly enforced as part of subcategorization.
