Localizer A modeling language for local search
INFORMS Journal on Computing, 1997Local search is a traditional technique to solve combinatorial search problems and has raised much interest in recent years. The design and implementation of local search algorithms is not an easy task in general and may require considerable experimentation and programming effort.

Abstract Picture languages are called local if local scanning suffices for recognition. In this paper, cellular automata, which accept in size-independent time, are used for recognition. Cellular automaton algorithms are given which precisely classify one-dimensional local languages.

Many countries in the world have toponyms in local, regional or minority languages that form parallel namescapes. Despite its recognition of these toponyms and its resolutions to safeguard them, UNGEGN has not provided much guidance on how to deal with them, beyond stating that they must be collected.

This study demonstrates how various stakeholders’ orientations about languagein- education policy and linguistic/cultural diversity are shaped by a monolingual habitus in Pakistan. The notion of habitus originates from Bourdieu’s (1991) social theories that refers to ‘a set of dispositions which incline agents to act and react in certain ways.

Local languages, global networks
Proceedings of the 34th ACM International Conference on the Design of Communication, 2016Minority and indigenous languages have a complex relationship with contemporary communication media. Social media, in particular, provide new venues for language use and revitalization, but also subject minority languages to inhibiting technological and social pressures.

Language localization by magnetoencephalography
Clinical Neurophysiology, 2016Identification of the brain regions mediating language has always been the most urgently sought after due to its practical applications: advanced knowledge of the language-specific zones can facilitate surgical planning and reduce the morbidity associated with resection of eloquent cortex.

1. Language policies, language ideologies and local language practices
2013Discussing a number of examples of language practices in different Asian contexts – from a job advertisement for English teachers in Vietnam, to injunctions to speak good English in Singapore, from mission statements on a Philippine convent wall, to an article about temple elephants in India – this paper argues that it is not so much language as ...
