Higher Brain Function Research, 2007 要素的症状と責任病巣の関係は以下に集約される。(1)アナルトリー:左中心前回中下部およびその皮質下，(2)(アナルトリーを伴わない)音韻性錯語:左上側頭回～縁上回～中心後回およびそれらの皮質下，(3)単語理解障害:左中前頭回，左上·中側頭回後部，およびそれらの皮質下，(4)喚語困難:左下前頭回，左角回，左側頭葉後下部およびそれらの皮質下。責任病巣が複数ある(3)や(4)は，同じ要素的症状でも，前頭葉損傷と後方領域損傷で，その障害内容が異なり，検査の工夫で相違を明らかにできた。その結果，前頭葉は理解や喚語に関して，おおまかなカテゴリーなどを指南する役割をもち，後方領域はその指南を受け，さらに厳密な情報へアクセスする役割を持つことが推測された。また，左側頭葉前方部損傷患者の特異な語想起障害のパターンから，
