Calibration of the Local Magnitude Scale for Hungary
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of AmericaABSTRACT The local magnitude for Hungary was calibrated based on 3490 seismograms of 422 crustal earthquakes recorded by 43 seismological stations in Hungary between 2016 and 2022. Following the suggestions of International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth’s Interior, the original Richter (1935) empirical attenuation ...

AbstractOnscale seismograms recorded at stations in the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) central California seismic network (CALNET) have been used to estimate the seismic moment M0 and local magnitude ML for earthquakes of 1 ≦ ML ≦ 4 located on the San Juan Bautista and Parkfield sections of the San Andreas fault, the Coyote Lake section of the ...

Station corrections have been introduced into the M"SUB L"-scale hitherto used for Baltic Shield earthquakes. This increases the consistency of the scale. The new formula has the design: M"SUB L"(UPP) = log a + log V(T) + 1.61 log DELTA - 3.22 + C"SUB I" + C"SUB s", where a = ground amplitude (mu m), V(T) = Wood-Anderson short-period seismometer ...

Moment Magnitude-Local Magnitude Calibration for Earthquakes off Canada's West Coast
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2003Local magnitude ( M L ) values of earthquakes off Canada9s west coast are known to be underestimated by at least 0.5 magnitude units compared with other magnitude scales. Moment magnitude ( M w ), derived from moment tensor analysis, provides the most robust estimate of the magnitude of earthquakes.
