Local mechanical properties of polymeric nanocomposites

Physical Review E, 2005
The inclusion of a nanoparticle into a polymer matrix is studied by efficient Monte Carlo simulations. The resulting structural changes in the melt and glass exhibit a strong dependence on the strength of the polymer attraction to the surface of the filler.

Calculation of local mechanical properties of filled polymers

Physical Review E, 2007
A study is presented on the effects of smooth nanoparticles on the structure and elastic moduli of a polymer matrix. Structural changes between the unfilled polymer matrix and the nanocomposite give rise to the formation of a glassy layer that surrounds the nanoparticles.

Local Mechanical Properties of Plasma Treated Polystyrene Surfaces

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2006
We study how a local air plasma treatment affects the mechanical properties of polystyrene by performing indentation measurements on the polymer in the elastic and plastic regime. The local exposure to plasma was obtained by placing a shadow-mask with quadratic holes of 45 x 45 microm(2) on top of the polymer substrate, providing uncovered (exposed to ...

Local mechanical properties of a hyperswollen lyotropic lamellar phase

Physical Review E, 2010
The local and slow dynamics of a colloidal particle dispersed in a hyperswollen lyotropic lamellar phase was studied by passive and active microrheological methods. According to observation by a particle-tracking video microscopy, the motion of a particle follows a normal diffusion process in a lamellar phase with a large interlayer distance.

CORRELATION BETWEEN RANDOM LOCAL MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF STRUCTURAL STEEL

2022
Local macroscopic mechanical properties of bar elements in steel building structures should be characterized by random functions of the same type. This idea has been inferred in present paper based on local hardness measurements. The possibility of trends occurring in the random sequences of hardness measured along the lengths of samples means that the

Local Mechanical Properties by Atomic Force Microscopy Nanoindentations

2008
The analysis of mechanical properties on a nanometer scale is a useful tool for combining information concerning texture organization obtained by microscopy with the properties of individual components. Moreover, this technique promotes the understanding of the hierarchical arrangement in complex natural materials as well in the case of simpler ...
