Local Scour at Piled Bridge Foundations
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1998An experimental study of local scour around rectangular bridge piers founded on two circular cylindrical piles, where the piles are exposed as a result of scouring, is presented. The problem is the interaction of two widths (pier and piles) if the interface is set at different elevations with respect to the bed.

The problem of local scour appears deceptively simple at the first sight, but continues to defy attempts of a rational solution. Due to the complex nature of the problem and a large number of variables involved a purely theoretical approach has been extremely difficult.

Overlooked Local Sediment Scour Mechanism
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2004A heretofore overlooked mechanism is described for the removal of sediment in the vicinity of a structure, such as a bridge pier, located in erodible sediment and subjected to water flow. The strength of this mechanism depends on, among other things, the ratio of structure width to sediment grain size, b/D 50

The present study investigates with laboratory experiments the scour downstream of a sill, followed by a rigid apron, in clear water scour conditions. Nine experiments were run, changing the discharge and the tailwater depth of the flow. The temporal evolution of the scour was recorded by a video camera and measured using image analysis techniques. The

Clearwater Local Scour at Complex Piers
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2005A new methodology to predict local scour depth at a complex pier is presented herein that combines existing expressions for scouring respectively at uniform piers, caisson-founded piers, pile groups with debris rafts, and pile groups alone. The method recognises the relative scouring potentials of the components of complex piers and the transition of ...

Local scour and scouring tests in a vicinity of large diameter offshore caisson
This paper describes the results of the model tests of sea bottom scouring in the vicinity of large diameter cylindrical offshore structures. The main goal of this investigation was two fold: firstly to study the sea bottom scouring around large, caisson type platforms in the arctic shallow water regions and secondly to find the suitable scouring ...openaire +2 more sources
