Physical modeling of local scour development around a large-diameter monopile in combined waves and current [PDF]

open access: yesCoastal Engineering, 2014
In most of the previous studies on local scour around pile foundations, wave-induced pore pressure response has not been taken into account. The local-scour and pore-pressure responses around a large-diameter monopile in combined waves and current have ...

Local scour at a barrier

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1975
Characteristic diagrams of the distribution of longitudinal velocities in the local scour zone at partly submerged obstructions are shown, and an equation is presented of dynamic balance of the flow around an obstruction during the the period of stabilization.

Local Scour Downstream of an Apron

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1985
Measurements have been made of the rate of scour downstream of a rigid apron due to a jet of water issuing through a sluice opening. Experiments are carried out for various sand sizes, sluice openings, efflux velocities, and lengths of apron. Mean velocity profiles in rigid models simulating the shape of the scour hole are studied in detail.

Short-term local scour

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 1992
Local scour downstream of an apron with a swept-out hydraulic jump is shown to develop very rapidly, that is in less than 1% of the time to reach the ultimate scour depth. The short-term scour although not as deep as the long-term scour, occurs much closer to the apron.

Experimental Investigation of Local Scour Protection for Cylindrical Bridge Piers Using Anti-Scour Collars

open access: yesWater (Switzerland), 2019
Local scour of bridge piers is one of the main threats responsible for bridge damage. Adopting scour countermeasures to protect bridge foundations from scour has become an important issue for the design and maintenance of bridges located in erodible ...
