Deformation Analysis of Large Diameter Monopiles of Offshore Wind Turbines under Scour

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The displacement of monopile supporting offshore wind turbines needs to be strictly controlled, and the influence of local scour can not be ignored. Using p–y curves to simulate the pile–soil interaction and the finite difference method to calculate ...

Local Scour of Bridge Pier Sited on a Multi-Layered Sedimentary Bed in Rivers [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
The riverbeds or sea beds are usually composed of multi-layers of sediments. The scour around bridge piers sited on such beds is vital to the bridge safety, but is still very difficult to be predicated as its complicated interaction between the flow and ...

Laboratory Study of Local Scour Around an Array of Pile Groups in Clear-Water Scour Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Current-induced local scour around pile groups weakens the capacity of structures. In this paper, experimental tests of local scour around an array of 5 × 5 pile groups were conducted in a steady current in a hydraulic flume.

On local scouring downstream small water structures

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
Background In order to regulate water flow, hydraulic structures such as weirs or checks, frequently equipped with gates, are used. Water can flow below or over the gate or, simultaneously, over and below the gate.

Mechanically Tunable Bone Scaffolds: In Vivo Hardening of 3D‐Printed Calcium Phosphate/Polycaprolactone Inks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bone scaffold with osteogenic properties and capable of hardening in vivo is developed. The scaffold is implanted in a ductile state, and a phase transformation of the ceramic induces the stiffening and strengthening of the scaffold in vivo. Abstract Calcium phosphate 3D printing has revolutionized customized bone grafting.

Experimental study of local scour around diamond bridge piers subject to transverse standing waves

open access: yesAin Shams Engineering Journal, 2022
Numerous bridges around the world have been destroyed due to local scour around their piers and abutments. Transverse standing waves (perpendicular to the flow direction) generated by obstacles, such as bridge piers, can affect the extent of local scour ...

Reevaluating the Activity of ZIF‐8 Based FeNCs for Electrochemical Ammonia Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Though receiving much attention, the field of electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) to ammonia is marked by doubts about whether this reaction is possible in aqueous media. This work sheds light on this question for iron single‐atom on N‐doped carbon (FeNC) catalysts—a class of well‐known catalysts that is also worth testing for the sister
