Advancing Age Modulates Associations Between Cognitive Impairment and Brain Volumes in Early MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Cognitive impairment is common in multiple sclerosis (MS), but manifestations following the first demyelinating event are relatively unexplored. We investigated cross‐sectional associations between magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)–derived brain volumes and the presence of cognitive impairment outcomes five years after the first ...

Prognostic Value of Neurofilament Light Chain and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein in ALD‐Related Myelopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background X‐linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X‐ALD) is a neurometabolic disorder caused by pathogenic variants in ABCD1, leading to slowly progressive spinal cord disease in nearly all affected men. Sensitive biomarkers to quantify disease severity and predict progression are needed for clinical care and trial design.

Enhanced Localization Solution

2012 IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Communications Workshops, 2012
The high potential of new generation smartphones in terms of resources capability as well as availability of embedded sensors and radio interfaces has opened new perspectives to developers, which came out with a massive number of applications for mobile phones.

Stability of Locally Optimal Solutions

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2000
The authors give a second-order characterization for the Lipschitz stability of local solutions to finite-dimensional parametrized optimization problems. The approach bases on the notions of proximal subgradients and coderivative Hessians of the essential objective function and especially on properties of continuous prox-regularity of this function. In

Crowd localization: Threats and solutions

2017 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS), 2017
The use of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) recently became famous in crowd localization services. In this article we show that such service induces significant threats and we propose a scheme that achieves privacy preserving crowd localization. Crowd localization applications leverage all their users to perform periodic BLE scan and detect the nearby ...

On finding locally optimal solutions

[1989] Proceedings. Structure in Complexity Theory Fourth Annual Conference, 2003
The problem of finding locally optimal solutions to combinatorial problems in the framework of polynomial-time local search as defined by D.S. Johnson et al. (J. Comput. Syst. Sci., vol.37, no.1, p.79-100, Aug. 1988) is considered. A PLS-complete problem such that the problem of verifying local optimality can be solved in LOGSPACE is exhibited. For all

Local search and the number of solutions

1996
There has been considerable research interest into the solubility phase transition, and its effect on search cost for backtracking algorithms. In this paper we show that a similar easy-hard-easy pattern occurs for local search, with search cost peaking at the phase transition. This is despite problems beyond the phase transition having fewer solutions,

The Solutions of Localism

2017
Chapter 5 chronicles regulatory attempts to bolster local television, particularly local television news, in the US, UK and Canada. It argues that each of these attempts ultimately fell victim to status quo thinking, a reliance on market factors, and a fallback to default localism.

The temperature of local anaesthetic solutions

Journal of Dentistry, 1977
Abstract The perception of the temperature of local anaesthetic solutions by patients was examined. Extremes of temperature were correctly identified but there was a lack of sensation of temperature in the intermediate range. It is concluded that the temperature of local anaesthetic solutions should preferably be between 20 and 35° C.
