Localization stabilized by noise
Journal of Statistical Physics, 1994We present a model which describes a quantum two-state system interacting with the environment represented by stochastic noise. We show that coherent tunneling between the two states survives if the interaction with the environment is weak. On the contrary, a strong interaction destroys quantum coherence and the system randomly jumps from one state to ...

Local Topological Stability for Diffeomorphisms
Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems, 2023The author studies stability and robustness properties of diffeomorphisms of compact smooth Riemannian manifolds. More specifically, the following two notions of topological stability with respect to an isolated invariant set are introduced and studied.

It is shown that Einstein’s equations are always linearization stable around any finite region of space-time. Let (Ω,g0ab ) be any region of space-time, admitting a compact Cauchy surface with nonempty smooth boundary, and with g0ab a sufficiently smooth solution of the vacuum Einstein equation.

Local adaptation in stabilized vision
Vision Research, 1966Abstract The increment threshold for a small stimulus superimposed upon adapting spots of various diameters was measured under scotopic conditions in the peripheral retina. Confirming Westheimer (1965) , it was found that adapting spots of about 1° diameter raise the threshold more than either larger or smaller spots.
