Local stability of nonequilibrium phases
Physical Review Letters, 1994The relative structural stability of the transition metals and their alloys for a tetragonal deformation is investigated. Total energy calculations demonstrate that the nonequilibrium cubic structures are [ital locally] [ital unstable] with respect to this deformation mode at low temperatures, i.e., the cubic elastic constants ([ital c][sub 11][minus ...

Stability of Locally Optimal Solutions
SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2000The authors give a second-order characterization for the Lipschitz stability of local solutions to finite-dimensional parametrized optimization problems. The approach bases on the notions of proximal subgradients and coderivative Hessians of the essential objective function and especially on properties of continuous prox-regularity of this function. In

The traditional linearized stellar-structure equations, which provide information on the global stability of a stellar equilibrium state, are shown to engender a class of continuous modes, if the eigenfunctions are sought in a generalized function space. To endow the intuitive concept of ‘Local Stellar Statility’ with a precise mathematical meaning, we

W-stability and local input-output stability results
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1995Summary: A new type of input-output stability is defined, based on the use of a Sobolev space \(W\); \(W\) is well suited, like the Lebesgue space \(L_2\), to obtain stability characterizations in the time and frequency domains. Moreover, if compared with \(L_2\), \(W\) has additional properties which enable us to establish ``local'' stability results.

Local Supercoil-Stabilized DNA Structure
Critical Reviews in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 1991The DNA double helix exhibits local sequence-dependent polymorphism at the level of the single base pair and dinucleotide step. Curvature of the DNA molecule occurs in DNA regions with a specific type of nucleotide sequence periodicities. Negative supercoiling induces in vitro local nucleotide sequence-dependent DNA structures such as cruciforms, left ...

Global and Local Thermodynamic Stability
Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 1999An attempt to relate the local dynamics of the stability and the global behavior of thermodynamic stability is presented through the study of the heat conduction in an infinite unidimensional solid bar. The problem is solved analytically in order to conclude that the structures are independent of the sign of the perturbation and the show that the ...

Gravitational stability of local strings
Physical Review Letters, 1987The full coupled gravity-string field equations are considered and they are used to show that a general local string will have an asymptotically conical structure. For the case of the Abelian Higgs model with U(1) gauge invariance, the gravitational field of a simple local string to first order in Geta/sup 2/ is exhibited.

Observing locally self-stabilization
Journal of High Speed Networks, 2005A self-stabilizing algorithm cannot detect by itself that stabilization has been reached. For overcoming this drawback Lin and Simon introduced the notion of an external observer, i.e., a set of processes, one being located at each node, whose role is to detect stabilization.

LINKS BETWEEN LOCAL CONTROLLABILITY AND LOCAL CONTINUOUS STABILIZATION
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992Abstract We prove that a control system which satisfies well known sufficient conditions for small time local controllability — for example the Hermes Condition — can be dynamically locally asymptotically stabilized by means of a continuous time-varying feedback law.

Local subspace video stabilization
2014 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), 2014Video stabilization enhances video quality by stabilizing unstable motion. This paper proposes a new video stabilization method that simultaneously factors and smooths motion trajectories. We model the trajectories with a time-variant local subspace constraint.
