Locator: Local Stability for Rankings

SIGMOD Conference Companion
Rankings play a crucial role in decision-making. However, if minor changes to items significantly alter their rankings, the quality of the decisions being made can be compromised.

Stability analysis of local swarms

2010 11th International Conference on Control Automation Robotics & Vision, 2010
This paper considers finite sense ability and finite motion ability into swarm system. We first construct a model of local swarms with a class of attraction and repulsion. Then we analyze their aggregation motion on the basis of the model. It is shown that the individuals of the two swarms will aggregate and eventually enter into a bounded hypeball ...

Local adaptation in stabilized vision

Vision Research, 1966
Abstract The increment threshold for a small stimulus superimposed upon adapting spots of various diameters was measured under scotopic conditions in the peripheral retina. Confirming Westheimer (1965) , it was found that adapting spots of about 1° diameter raise the threshold more than either larger or smaller spots.

Local Topological Stability for Diffeomorphisms

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems, 2023
The author studies stability and robustness properties of diffeomorphisms of compact smooth Riemannian manifolds. More specifically, the following two notions of topological stability with respect to an isolated invariant set are introduced and studied.

Local stability of nonequilibrium phases

Physical Review Letters, 1994
The relative structural stability of the transition metals and their alloys for a tetragonal deformation is investigated. Total energy calculations demonstrate that the nonequilibrium cubic structures are [ital locally] [ital unstable] with respect to this deformation mode at low temperatures, i.e., the cubic elastic constants ([ital c][sub 11][minus ...

Observing locally self-stabilization

Journal of High Speed Networks, 2005
A self-stabilizing algorithm cannot detect by itself that stabilization has been reached. For overcoming this drawback Lin and Simon introduced the notion of an external observer, i.e., a set of processes, one being located at each node, whose role is to detect stabilization. We propose here a less expensive approach, where there is a

Local stability of FAST TCP

2004 43rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37601), 2004
The stability properties of FAST TCP is studied based on a discrete-time model. We prove that FAST TCP is locally asymptotically stable for an arbitrary network in the absence of feedback delay. When feedback delay is present, we derive a sufficient condition for local asymptotic stability for the case of a single link.

Local subspace video stabilization

2014 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), 2014
Video stabilization enhances video quality by stabilizing unstable motion. This paper proposes a new video stabilization method that simultaneously factors and smooths motion trajectories. We model the trajectories with a time-variant local subspace constraint.

Effects of Local Interactions and Local Migration on Stability

Theoretical Population Biology, 2002
Mathematical models can help to resolve the longstanding question of whether more diverse communities are more stable. Here, I focus on how local dispersal and local interactions--hallmarks of spatial communities--affect stability in a spatially implicit model with demographic stochasticity.

Local Dynamic Stability Associated with Load Carrying [PDF]

open access: yesSafety and Health at Work, 2013
Objectives: Load carrying tasks are recognized as one of the primary occupational factors leading to slip and fall injuries. Nevertheless, the mechanisms associated with load carrying and walking stability remain illusive.
