Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Local Observability of Systems on Time Scales

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
Analytic systems on an arbitrary time-scale are studied. As particular cases they include continuous-time and discrete-time systems. Several local observability properties are considered. They are characterized in a unified way using the language of real

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Simulating symmetric time evolution with local operations

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2012
In closed systems, dynamical symmetries lead to conservation laws. However, conservation laws are not applicable to open systems that undergo irreversible transformations.

Local Quantum Theory with Fluids in Space-Time

open access: yesQuantum Reports, 2023
In 1948, Schwinger developed a local Lorentz-covariant formulation of relativistic quantum electrodynamics in space-time which is fundamentally inconsistent with any delocalized interpretation of quantum mechanics.

Local Times of Bernoulli Walk [PDF]

open access: yesStatistica Neerlandica, 1988
The joint probability generating functions of local times of Bernoulli walk at various stopping times are determined by simple functional equations. The results can be interpreted by means of branching processes with immigration satisfying the same equations. One way of working with these results is to specialize and evaluate the derived equations, but

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Universal and local time components in Schumann resonance intensity [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2008
We extend the technique suggested by Sentman and Fraser (1991) and discussed by Pechony and Price (2006), the technique for separating the local and universal time variations in the Schumann resonance intensity.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

An Efficient Local Formulation for Time–Dependent PDEs

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
In this paper, a local meshless method (LMM) based on radial basis functions (RBFs) is utilized for the numerical solution of various types of PDEs. This local approach has flexibility with respect to geometry along with high order of convergence rate ...
