Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Spectral Properties of the Fractional Pauli Operator on a Bounded Domain [PDF]

open access: yesControl and Optimization in Applied Mathematics
This paper introduces and analyzes, for the first time, the \emph{fractional Pauli operator}, a non-local generalization of the fundamental quantum mechanical operator describing spin-1/2 particles in magnetic fields.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Learning non-local molecular interactions via equivariant local representations and charge equilibration

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Graph Neural Network (GNN) potentials relying on chemical locality offer near-quantum mechanical accuracy at significantly reduced computational costs.

The effect of slant on visuomotor localization

open access: yesVision Research, 1999
Visuomotor localization in the presence of slant was measured. Five subjects pointed at the center LED of an array of five LEDs viewed monocularly. Pointing was open-loop. The LEDs were separated by 1.5, 3.0, or 4.5 cm. The array was rotated about a vertical axis coincident with the center LED to slant the array from -50 degrees to +50 degrees.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Food value tests with carrots: Long-term study initiated to determine effects of production practices on food value of vegetables

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1954
The effects of farming procedures and marketing practices on the food value of carrots were investigated in a study which considered size of roots, age, harvest time, locality of production, variety, and other factors.

Nonlocal correlations dynamics of two-qubit Heisenberg XYZ states with influence of intrinsic decoherence and y-component of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
In this paper, we explore nonlocal correlation and Bell non-locality in a two-qubit Heisenberg XYZ model by using Bell-CHSH inequality and uncertainty induced nonlocality (UIN) as well as log-negativity.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
