A Localized Multi-Level Method of Fundamental Solutions Applied to Steady Heat Transfer Problems
Key Engineering MaterialsA special localization technique is presented for solving steady heat transfer problems, in which the thermal conductivity may depend on space variables. The original problem is split into several subproblems defined on much smaller subdomains. The subproblems are solved using the Method of Fundamental Solutions, which is a truly meshless method.

We tackle two key difficulties in the simulation of the viscous hydrodynamics of a large dense collection of rigid particles: (i) the poor convergence rate of an iterative solution of the discretized linear system as particle gaps shrink, and (ii) the large number of unknowns needed to accurately discretize the resulting lubrication-driven flows.
