Compactness properties of locally compact groups
Transformation Groups, 1997For a discrete group \(\Gamma\) and an integer \(n\), finiteness properties \(FP_n\) and \(F_n\) are considered. They are defined as follows: \(\Gamma\) is of type \(FP_n\) if there is a projective resolution of \(\mathbb{Z} \Gamma\) over the trivial \(\mathbb{Z} \Gamma\)-module \(\mathbb{Z}\) with finitely generated modules in dimension \(\leq n\). \(\

A New Group Algebra for Locally Compact Groups
American Journal of Mathematics, 1964When an abstract group is represented by linear transformations on a vector space, the group of transformations generates an algebra. In the case of finite dimensional representations of a finite group, the algebra consists of linear combinations of elements in the range of the representation.
