Fixed point characterization of left amenable Lau algebras
The present paper deals with the concept of left amenability for a wide range of Banach algebras known as Lau algebras. It gives a fixed point property characterizing left amenable Lau algebras 𝒜 in terms of left Banach 𝒜-modules.

Advances in the Theory of Compact Groups and Pro-Lie Groups in the Last Quarter Century
This article surveys the development of the theory of compact groups and pro-Lie groups, contextualizing the major achievements over 125 years and focusing on some progress in the last quarter century.

Fixed point property and the Fourier algebra of a locally compact group
We establish some characterizations of the weak fixed point property (weak fpp) for noncommutative (and commutative) L 1 spaces and use this for the Fourier algebra A(G) of a locally compact group G. In particular we show that if G is an IN-group, then A(

Approximating Simple Locally Compact Groups by Their Dense Locally Compact Subgroups [PDF]
Abstract The class $\mathscr{S}$ of totally disconnected locally compact (tdlc) groups that are non-discrete, compactly generated, and topologically simple contains many compelling examples. In recent years, a general theory for these groups, which studies the interaction between the compact open subgroups and the global structure, has ...

3D Concrete Printing of Triply Periodic Minimum Surfaces for Enhanced Carbon Capture and Storage
A 3D‐printable and carbon‐capturing concrete is developed by replacing cement with diatomaceous earth (DE), which enhances rheology, provides hierarchical porosity, and serves as a nucleation site for carbonation. Maximum absorption of 488.7 gCO2 kgcement−1 is achieved in 7 days, a 142% increase over conventional concrete, and the triply periodic ...

Homogeneous Locally Compact Groups
AbstractWe determine all locally compact abelian groups with the property that the group of all topological automorphisms acts transitively on the set of nontrivial elements. Such groups are called homogeneous. The connected ones are the additive groups of finite-dimensional vector spaces over the real numbers. The compact ones are the (not necessarily

Locking Metastable Topological Domains in Nematic Liquid Crystal Pi Cells
Selective photopolymerization in the presence of a controlled voltage defines permanent director walls that lock‐in metastable bend and twist configurations within nematic liquid crystal Pi cells. Q‐tensor simulations corroborate the experiments, demonstrating the topological state stabilization.

An example of a non-Borel locally-connected finite-dimensional topological group
According to a classical theorem of Gleason and Montgomery, every finite-dimensional locally path-connected topological group is a Lie group. In the paper for every $n\ge 2$ we construct a locally connected subgroup $G\subset{\mathbb R}^{n+1}$ of ...

Normal structure in dual Banach spaces associated with a locally compact group
In this paper we investigated when the dual of a certain function space defined on a locally compact group has certain geometric properties. More particularly, we asked when weak* compact convex subsets in these spaces have normal structure, and when the
