Empowering teachers and fostering pupil climate action in Welsh primary schools

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract The Curriculum for Wales intends to help students understand and address climate change, but relies on teachers' knowledge and implementation thereof. This article focuses on “The Lifecycle of My Clothes”, a unit of work (UoW) developed by academics and practitioners. The UoW aimed to increase students' awareness of the environmental impact of

Locally Repairable Codes and Matroid Theory

open access: yes, 2015
Locally repairable codes (LRCs) are error correcting codes used in distributed data storage. A traditional approach is to look for codes which simultaneously maximize error tolerance and minimize storage space consumption. However, this tends to yield codes for which error correction requires an unrealistic amount of communication between storage nodes.

Photoreversible Polyurea Actuators With Spatiotemporal Control and Adaptive Mechanics

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
A light–thermal responsive polyurea network incorporating reversibly dimerizable anthracene units enables spatiotemporal modulation of cross‐linking density and nearly 400‐fold stiffness tuning. Integrating programmable anisotropy, photopatterning, self‐healing, and photowelding within a single framework, this bioinspired “one network–multifunction ...

Extension of Optimal Locally Repairable codes

open access: yes
Recent studies have delved into the construction of locally repairable codes (LRCs) with optimal minimum distance from function fields. In this paper, we present several novel constructions by extending the findings of optimally designed locally repairable codes documented in the literature.

For the Few, Not the Many: Tracing the Residualist and Compensatory Nature of British Energy Support

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drawing on extensive documentary analysis, this article traces the evolution of British energy policy support since World War II. It analyses shifts in policy design through two interpretive lenses: eligibility (residualist vs. universalist) and function (compensatory vs. preventive).

Programmable crack dynamics engineering enables flexible strain sensors with high linearity

open access: yesFlexMat, EarlyView.
First‐decoupling theoretical framework of crack evolution elucidating the control methods, mechanistic insights, and structure‐activity relationships is established. Crack propagation from uncontrollable randomness systematically evolves into spatially ordered states.

Immune, molecular and genetic profiles of gastric signet ring cell carcinoma: Recent progress and future challenges

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Gastric signet ring cell carcinoma (GSRCC) is a special type of gastric cancer common in young women. Diffuse gastric cancer (DGC) begins with intramucosal lesions comprising differentiated GSRCC cells. Genetically, GSRCC and DGC are clonally identical, with their morphology influenced by extracellular Wnt signaling.
