Facilitating Location Independence with Computerized Conversation Systems

Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, 1996
Location independence for organizations is desirable if they wish to achieve a given spatial distribution in a regional development plan. An organization's interaction with its environment forms the basis of its daily work and takes the form of ‘information links’ composed of fundamental indivisible blocks called ‘conversations’.

Location-independent access in mobile systems

Proceedings of ICC/SUPERCOMM '96 - International Conference on Communications, 1997
In this paper, we report on the design of a protocol for transparent, location-independent access in mobile systems. The protocol, termed by us Mobile Client/Server Protocol (MCSP) is an implementation of a communication layer on a mobile host and a stationary machine within the wireline network, and provides middleware functionality. The MCSP supports

DISTRIBUTED DOCUMENT AUTHORING FOR LOCATION-INDEPENDENT COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

ICERI Proceedings, 2017
Employing computer-supported collaborative learning for cooperative problem solving or as the basis for a shared learning environment regularly entails arbitrary restrictions and requirements for the participants. Frequent interruptions to the individual’s and the group’s workflow due to transitions between data type-specific applications, the manual ...

Location-independent information object security

Proceedings of the Symposium on Network and Distributed System Security, 2002
Users are mobile and use multiple platforms with differing applications over time. These users have no security service applications which are independent of location or computing environment. The IOS project has developed syntax and applications which provide these services. The IOS Tools allow one or more users to apply security services to documents.

A rapid location independent full tensor gravity algorithm

2013 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium - IGARSS, 2013
We present an algorithm to rapidly calculate the vertical gravitational attraction and full tensor gravity gradient (FTG) values due to a 3D geologic model. Our technique is based on the vertical line source (VLS) element approximation with a constant density within each grid cell.

Bringing Place into Meaningful Work: The Case of Location-independent Work

Academy of Management Proceedings, 2023
Prior research on meaningful work has identified a variety of resources that are available to people at work, including membership, association, and a sense of belonging. However, as digital technologies have made work more location-independent, the ground for meaningful work is shifting.

LIA: A LOCATION-INDEPENDENT TRANSFORMATION FOR ASOCS ADAPTIVE ALGORITHM 2

International Journal of Neural Systems, 1996
Most Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) have a fixed topology during learning, and often suffer from a number of short-comings as a result. ANNs that use dynamic topologies have shown the ability to overcome many of these problems. Adaptive Self-Organizing Concurrent Systems (ASOCS) are a class of learning models with inherently dynamic topologies ...

A class of location-independent variability orders, with applications

Journal of Applied Probability, 2010
Li and Shaked (2007) introduced the family of generalized total time on test transform (TTT) stochastic orders, which is parameterized by a real function h that can be used to capture the preferences of a decision maker. It is natural to look for properties of these orders when there is an uncertainty in determining the appropriate function h.

Emerging electronic library services and the idea of location independence

Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1992
IN THE LAST DECADE, many academic libraries have installed online public access catalogs (OPACS). Recently, many of them have begun to provide users with dial-up access and access across various networks, including the Internet. As these connections have multiplied, the combination of electronic library services and connections across high-speed ...

Location-independent determination of the activity of a point source in absorbing media

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2004
The unknown distribution of a radioactive material in a bulky volume will induce considerable inaccuracies in the determination of its activity due to the unknown geometry and absorption factors. The methods of using two detectors and of employing the full-energy peak to total ratio were investigated to evaluate parameters, which can be used to improve
