Context-Aware Location Prediction

2016
Predicting the future location of mobile objects has become an important and challenging problem. With the widespread use of mobile devices, applications of location prediction include location-based services, resource allocation, handoff management in cellular networks, animal migration research, and weather forecasting. Most current techniques try to

Location Prediction in Social Networks

2018
User locations in social networks are needed in many applications which utilize location information to recommend local news and places of interest to users, as well as detect and alert emergencies around users. However, considering individual privacy, only a small portion users share their location on social networks. Thus, to predict the fine-grained

Analyzing Location Predictability on Location-Based Social Networks

2014
With the growing popularity of location-based social networks, vast amount of user check-in histories have been accumulated. Based on such historical data, predicting a user’s next check-in place is of much interest recently. There is, however, little study on the limit of predictability of this task and its correlation with users’ demographics.

Hybrid Predictors for Next Location Prediction

2006
Neural networks, Bayesian networks, Markov models, and state predictors are different methods to predict the next location. For all methods a lot of parameters must be set up which differ for each user. Therefore a complex configuration must be made before such a method can be used.

Predicting future locations using prediction-by-partial-match

Proceedings of the first ACM international workshop on Mobile entity localization and tracking in GPS-less environments, 2008
We implemented the Prediction-by-Partial-Match data compression algorithm as a predictor of future locations. Positioning was done using IEEE 802.11 wireless access logs. Several experiments were run to determine how to divide the data for training and testing and how to best represent the data as a string of symbols.

The onset location of multiple sclerosis predicts the location of subsequent relapses

Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, 2008
Demyelinating events in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) can involve several locations in the central nervous system. We sought to determine if initial clinical demyelinating event (IDE) location predicts subsequent clinical relapse locations in early RRMS.We identified all RRMS patients from two large MS clinics who were seen within 1 ...

Predictability of Magnetopause Location

Understanding the dynamics and predictability of magnetopause location is crucial for space weather forecasting and the safeguarding of critical technological infrastructure. The first part of the talk surveys previous effort in development of magnetopause models that gradually involve more and more driving parameters, starting from solar wind dynamic ...
